Elsewhere Inklings Workshop ... Join us for a morning of artistic alchemy with artist Hannah Pugh, to create intuitive and enchanting worlds of paper, ink and metal leaf.

Come join us for a hands-on creative event where you can let the mediums of ink, bleach and salt lead you to create intuitive paintings which can then be worked into using metal leaf and pen, resulting in a personal 'Elsewhere Inkling' and other alchemical pieces. This in-person event will take place at Stirchley Library, an accessible and welcoming venue. Skills covered in the workshop will include creating distance to invoke awe and epicality, trusting your mark making, the importance of space within composition.

Get stuck in and unleash your creativity, learn new skills, and create something unique as Hannah guides you through the process of following your intuition and allowing the mediums to create enchantment on a page.

We Are The Witches at The House of Smalls Art Gallery

We Are The Witches is The House of Smalls last show of 2023 and the final one of the first year in its large space. A celebration of all things witchy, this exhibition exhibits the work of 75 UK and international artists. November 11 - December 16

Thrilled to have my painting ‘Gloaming ii’ hanging amongst such eclectic talent in this exhibition.

Solace and retreat can be found in the places we imagine when we want to escape.

'Gloaming II' is part of my Inkling collection, small studies of liminality in time and place, that arrive from imagination, intuition and memory.

Painted using writing ink and bleach, layered onto found plywood with precious metal leaf, mundane materials are alchemised into quiet possibility.

"Being a witch means living in this world consciously, powerfully, and unapologetically." ~ Gabriela Herstik

IKON FOR ARTISTS: ART SALE

Ikon reopens after lockdown, devoting its galleries to an exhibition of artworks for sale by over 250 Birmingham artists. Submitted through an open call, work in a range of media is presented both in the gallery and online. 100% of the proceeds from artwork sales go directly to the artists. Formed in response to Covid-19, Ikon for Artists aims to support local artists whose income has been impacted by the pandemic.

In December 2020 Ikon launched an open call, inviting Birmingham-based artists to submit one artwork with a value of up to £1,000. Guidelines required participants to demonstrate they have been practising full-time or part-time as an artist in Birmingham, and submissions were welcomed in a range of media including painting, drawing, photography, textiles, sculpture and video. The works are exhibited in the order applications were received.

Ikon for Artists launches with a digital event with Joe Lycett, comedian and participating artist.
